2011 was a clean break for the F-150. Ford dropped the old Triton V8s and launched four new engines, so a 2011 truck shares almost nothing under the hood with a 2010. That's good news for parts hunting: the 2011 lineup carried through 2014, which keeps used units easy to find.
Engines Offered in the 2011 F-150
| VIN 8th digit | Engine |
|---|---|
| M | 3.7L V6 |
| F | 5.0L V8 (Coyote) |
| T | 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 |
| 6 | 6.2L V8 |
- The 3.7L V6 and 5.0L V8 are both flex-fuel capable and run on E85.
- The 3.5L EcoBoost arrived early in the 2011 model year.
- The 6.2L V8 was offered on the SVT Raptor and upper trims such as Lariat, Platinum and Harley-Davidson.
All four were paired with the 6R80 six-speed automatic.
Matching the Engine to Your Truck
Check the 8th character of your VIN against the table above, then confirm the 10th character is B, Ford's code for the 2011 model year. Our listings show the VIN engine code for each unit, so you can match it at a glance. For a walk-through, see how to match a used engine to your car by VIN code.
A 5.0L or 3.5L from a 2012 truck often comes up as an alternative. Call us before ordering a different year so we can check sensors, wiring and calibration.
